ABOUT US!
SEAT Mission Statement
To increase interest and educate the public of the recreational benefits of horses and trail riding in Virginia and North Carolina, and to promote safe and responsible trail riding.
SEAT organizes various trail rides for the benefit of all horse people. The club assists in the maintenance of existing trails and the creation of new trails, abiding by the philosophy of Leave No Trace. SEAT also promotes friendly relationships with organizations and individuals of similar interests. We will meet monthly to go over club business, enjoy a good meal, catch up on horse conversation and meet new people.
We will join together for trail rides locally, regionally and statewide and create a wonderful family type atmosphere.
Meetings, Rides, and Events
We usually have a meeting on the third Monday of the month at 7 pm at Big Woody's Bar and Grill in the private meeting room, 123 N. Battlefield, Chesapeake, VA 23320, unless otherwise communicated, and you are welcome to come early to eat and socialize before the meeting begins. SEAT bylaws may be viewed by clicking here.
At each meeting we will usually schedule a monthly ride at one of the local parks, weather permitting. We also usually schedule an annual SEAT event. In the past, we have had Poker Rides, Trail Obstacle Course Events, Trailer Rodeos and an Easter Egg Spring Fling.
Many of our members enjoy camping with their horses and our club will plan a trip to one of the local state parks or plan to participate as a group in an organized benefit ride.
Membership and Benefits
- Our SEAT membership year runs January to December. There are two kinds of memberships - single and family. The annual cost of a single membership is $20 and a family membership costs $30. The benefits of joining SEAT are many. Our club carries a limited liability insurance policy to cover damages caused by a member and their equine during sanctioned SEAT events. We enjoy participating in the local parades such as: the Norfolk Grand Illumination, Chesapeake Christmas, Neptune Festival, and Smithfield parades.
- Another benefit is having access to the Members Only SEAT Facebook Daily Communication group page. This group allows contact with other SEAT members to safely meet up for riding opportunities.
- Lastly, the benefit of meeting like-minded people that enjoy the beauty of the trails from the back of a horse. Membership will need to be renewed by March 31 to continue receiving the above benefits.
